About Course
Description
The third series will look at all that is inky, spontaneous and full of life: the calligraphic line as a voyage of discovery. We will begin with some outliers in the history of Latin letters, looking at how a line can move and shift instead of following a predictable path. This series will look at calligraphy as a process of drawing as much as of writing. Letters are shapes that you can alter radically without losing legibility entirely.

These courses are adding great fun to my life. They open doors to self exploration that unravel millions of possibilities. The "expressive line" focuses on the power a line can have to convey whatever emotion you want to portray. The variety of work that this premise inspired in the Student Gallery work is really amazing. Brody has a real gift for explaining and orchestrating these abstract notions and encouraging a deep range of explorations by the students. I can't wait for the next session!
